How I hate not feeling well....

Yesterday started out with a slight sore throat. By the evening I was coughing a little and by the time I went to bed, I sounded like I smoked a pack a day. All night, I woke up every hour to pop in a cough drop. It was the worst night of sleep. It was horrible.

Now, I have a stuffy/runny nose (don't you love when you get the combo?!) along with my throat that tickles and the cough. The sore throat is gone thankfully but it left a yucky cough in it's place. I am not sure if it is a cold or if it is allergies. Either way, it can not effect my boot camp regimen.

It's the pits. I'm bummed. I hope it won't last long.

cute little things....

I love that even a 1 year old can make this dog look so small!

My friend Katie talked her husband in to this really adorable chihuahua puppy. If you could see me right now, you would see that my coloring is a hint green. It has been this way since the day she introduced me to this adorable little lap dog. I can't believe my husband is so cruel, he says our 3 are enough and we don't need any more. Can you believe that?!

I sprinkled bird food out back and since then this little blue jay has been coming to sample the buffet.
Along with some boring old blackish birds.

Day 5 of boot camp

I'll see if I can remember back that far. Instead of coming home and posting... I came home and napped! I needed it though... it felt great to get some deep shut eye.

Warm up was REALLY short. We jogged 1/8-1/4 of a mile to the field. We made a large circle and did high knees to the middle then back twice. Butt kickers to the middle and back. 10 Mountain climbers (where your in push up stance and you bring your knees into your chest. Left and right equals 1.) 10 squats. Then we did just a couple really basic stretches.

They split us into 3 groups. Cones with playing cards laying face down were in between the cones. The cones were set up about 30-40 feet in front of us. We ran down and picked up a card and brought it back where we did however many reps the card was worth. (7 clubs would equal 7 reps. Jack,king, and queen equal 10 reps) Then each sign represented a move. We did this until all of the cards were out. Then counted up the cards and the winner got to pick what the losers had to do. We did this for arms, butt and legs.

Losers did: 15 tricep dips on the first, 15 bent over things (read below) and 15 squats. Winners only had to do 10 of the above.

Arms:
hearts= push ups
clubs= shoulder press (bent over with butt far in air and work the shoulders push up style)
spades= tricep dippers
diamonds= push up with an arm raise (do a push up then lift one arm off the ground and point it to the sky. It works the abs and the arms)

Butt:
hearts= fire hydrant (down on hands and knees. Lift knee up in the air like a dog peeing. Left+right= 1)
clubs= hip rotators (same as fire hydrant but rotate lifted knee in circle. Left+right= 1)
spades= round house kick (same as fire hydrant except when you lift the leg you kick it out to the side. Left+right=1)
diamonds= bend over with one foot behind you and reach down with opposite hand to touch the toe. Left + right= 1 (I don't know what it is called?!)

Legs:
hearts= squats
clubs= front lunge
spades= back lunge
diamonds= squat with a front kick (left kick+ right kick= 1)

After that we stretched a couple of times and that was it. No abs today which bummed me out a little.

I hope your workout is going well. I'd love to hear all about it.

Day 4 of Boot Camp

Thankfully they didn't punish me for skipping out on Wednesday! Today was rigorous though. Starting with warm up: once again 3 trainers spread out 15 feet or so.
-squat 10 times
-butt kickers to next person
-10 pulsers (in squat form then pulse 1,2,3=1; 1,2,3=2 etc.)
-froggy to next person (squat down and touch the ground then explode up)
-10 calf raises with arm circles
-lunge back to next girl
-10 pulsers
-jog to next person (up a hill!)
-squat 10 times

We jogged over to a field where cones were set up (5 cones) and did some stretches. Then they split us up into 3 groups and in front of each group were 5 cones spaced out ~10 feet apart in a straight line.

We started at home (1st cone) sprint to 2, do a squat then sprint back to home and do a squat. Sprint to 3, do a squat then sprint back to home and do a squat. Sprint to 4, do a squat then sprint back to home and do a squat. Sprint to 5 then jog ~ 1/4 mi. circle to return back to the cones.

Now, repeat that!

Next, same lines. Have two cones resting in front. Pick up a cone and sprint ~15 feet and drop it. Sprint back and get the second cone. Sprint out and drop it next to the other cone. Sprint back. The next person sprinted out and picked up the cone and brought it back. Then sprinted out and retrieved the other cone and came back. (while waiting for others in your line we constantly moved; calf raises, high knees, side to side, etc.)

Next they moved out ~30 feet and we repeated that. Then they moved out ~45 feet and repeated the relay.

Abs are up next. We did 10, 3 count crunches. Up 1,2,3=1; 1,2,3=2; just like pulers but with abs. Next we did 10 full sit ups. Next, 10 toe touches (legs at 90 degree angle then reach up to touch the toes). 10 bicycles (instead of making your legs do circles, push one leg out parallel with the ground and pull the opposite knee in. Touch opposite elbow with opposite knee.) Last, were kickers. I put my hands under my butt, lift the legs 3-6 in off the ground and kick 20 times.

We ended with some stretches.

Have a good work out!! I hope this all helps.

Skipper

Well, I hate to admit it, but I skipped boot camp this morning :( I know, I know... call me any name that you like.

We went to a really great BBQ at a friend's house and I was having so much fun that I didn't pay much attention to the time. I don't think I left until around 10ish and I knew that it would take me a few minutes to mellow out before I was sleepy. The sound of getting up at 4:50am just didn't sit well with me so I turned off my alarm and got up at 6:40 to my husbands alarm (yay for sleeping in.... that was meant to have a sarcastic tone to it)

Anyway, I'm a slacker. I'm lazy. I'm too much of a BBQ partier (which is not a word or I am not spelling it correctly).

I hang my head in shame and am crawling into a hole as I type.

Boot Camp Run Down...

I had a request from a blog follower (I can't believe I actually have people that follow my blog that aren't my family! It makes me kind of excited!!) to out line what we do in boot camp each day.

So, Day 1- Fitness test
Get on the scale and write down your weight. Also, take measurements of neck, bicep (not flexing), waist line (where your belly button is) and hips (around the largest part of the bum).
Now, run 1 mile but make sure you time it.
Do as many sit-ups (full sit-ups, no crunches) as you can in one minute.
Do as many push-ups (real push-ups, no girly push-ups!) as you can in one minute.
Do as many tricep dips as you can in one minute. You can check out the form here.

Now, write down all of this information and keep it. I think we do all the measuring/weighing again in two weeks. Otherwise, we won't do it again until the last day.

Day 2-
We did 25 jumping jacks, 20 walking lunges, 20 high knees, 20 butt kickers (run with your feet touching the booty). Now reverse it, 20 butt kickers, 20 high knees, 20 walking lunges, 20 jumping jacks.

Next we jogged to a station with 4 cones set up in a circle (or go to a baseball field) and lined up. We sprinted to 1st then jogged to home. Did 20 push-ups. Sprinted 1st and 2nd then jogged home. 20 v-push ups (stand with feet shoulder width apart, bend at waist with hands on the ground and little out in front and do the motion of a push-up). Sprint 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Do 10 tricep dippers (get in position like you are going to crab walk, then drop to do tricep dip.. no pelvic thrust). Last, sprint all bases. Do 10 sphinx push-ups. Demonstration here. (to make it easier do one arm at a time. Down, down, up, up)

Then we lined up one team across from the other (home across from 2nd). We ran the basses trying to catch each other. If you don't have a work out partner to do this with then run the bases as fast as you can. Do high knees for 1-2 minutes and run the bases again.

Do 10 sit-ups.

Now, do the sprints all again. Sprint to 1st. 20 push-ups. Sprint 1 and 2. 20 v push-ups. Sprint 1,2 and 3. 10 tricep dippers. Sprint all. 10 sphinx push-ups.

Do plank for 1 minute. Do side plank right for 1 minute. Side plank left for 1 minute. Super man for 1 minute.

Yeah!! Day 2 is over. Be ready to hurt a little!!

I hope it all makes sense. It is a lot of work but I'm already loving the way I feel. I hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything else you need me to include or a different way you would want me to word it.

Good luck!

Bootcamp

I started boot camp this morning with a new friend! First, I love that I have a new friend. (She is the sister of one of my friends from church) We met briefly at a homemade gourmet party her sister hosted. We have exchanged emails a couple of times but she was brave enough to call me (a virtual stranger) and invite me to lunch after our tests we took Saturday. (I tested to receive my alternative certification in teaching for science) I really enjoyed our lunch/talk session very much and she must not have minded my blabbering too much because later in the day she texted me to see if I would be interested in joining her for a boot camp. I need to get in shape.... so, I said, "I'm in!".

This morning started at 4:35, when my alarm went off, and I was out the door by 4:45. I made my way to Claremore (about a 20-30 minute drive) where I met her at a gas station so she could show me the rest of the way.

Class started at 5:30 with some warm up (exhausting) exercises before we proceeded to run a timed mile. Mind you... I'm not much of a runner any more so my time wasn't that great. I ran the mile in 12 minutes 3 seconds. (I'm supposed to be able to run it much faster by the end of the month) After the terrible, killer mile... it was sit-up time. We had 1 minute to do as many sit-ups as we could do, I could do a whopping 24. Next came push-ups. Again, we had one minute to do as many as we could. I thought I had this one, with all of my P90X training, oh no... I did 18 maybe 20, I can't remember clearly (it has been a loooonnnggg morning!). Then we were off to do dips. 1 minute on the clock... I'm dipping like crazy, I thought I would smoke the competition... nope, I did 24!

Anyway, I will let you know on June 26th how things went. I am doing this class 5 days a week for the month of June. Wish me luck because I thought I was going to pass out or throw up today!!

Thanks Kimberlee...
